Industrial Lumber

Industrial lumber is generally used for crates and pallets to ship products.  The grade is #3, Utility or NGS (No Grade Stamp).  When used for international shipping, it must comply with IPPC ISPM 15 rules concerning heat treating and bark.  IPPC ISPM 15 is the acronym for International Plant Protection Convention, International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15. IPPC aims to protect cultivated and wild plants by preventing the introduction and spread of pests in shipping materials.  For lumber to comply with IPPC, it must have a HT (Heat Treated) stamp from a certified mill or heat treating facility.  Heat Treatment requires that each solid wood component must be heated to a minimum of 56 degrees C (133 degrees F) for 30 minutes at the core of each piece.  For international shipments, a crate or pallet must be made from materials that have been heat treated or fumigated and there must be an IPPC stamp on the crate or pallet from a certified fabricator.  Schmeling Building Supply is certified by NELMA as a wood packaging facility and as a re-maunfacturing facility.
